About Kaitlyn

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Kaitlyn McGrath's passion for weather began when local Meteorologist, Dennis Bowman, did a presentation at her elementary school. The science of the atmosphere has captivated her ever since.
Moving south to attend the University of Florida, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications, News Broadcasting with a concentration in Meteorology from one of the top journalism schools in the country. During her time at UF, Kaitlyn gained experience in front of the green screen as a Student Forecaster for the local PBS Station WUFT-TV.
Kaitlyn began her broadcast career at WCSC-TV in Charleston, South Carolina, and prior to joining WUSA9, worked at the NBC affiliate in Hartford, Connecticut. During her time in Connecticut, Kaitlyn was also a contributing meteorologist for CNBC where she forecasted high-impact storms of national significance from CNBC’s World Headquarters in New Jersey.
In addition to her role as a Meteorologist, Kaitlyn is a passionate environmental advocate dedicated to raising awareness about climate change. She understands the far-reaching consequences, from rising sea levels to increasing air temperatures, and is committed to educating viewers on the science behind these changes. Her goal is to empower people with knowledge about environmental challenges and inspire action to help mitigate their impact on our planet.
Kaitlyn is an Emmy award winning Meteorologist who has been honored with the NWA Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association.
